Jodie asked me if I wanted to head up to Kaufman's Beauty School for a haircut today. So, in honor of my niece who's in beauty school in Maryland, I thought I'd give my head of hair to a good cause.
You meet some interesting people at beauty schools I found on this very first beauty school hair cut. My stylist was the survivor of a massive head injury 17 months ago. She had to learn to walk and talk again and here she was cutting my hair. Luckily, I wear my hair short and pretty straightforward and she did a decent job. 7.00 for a cut and who can beat that? I was sitting there thinking, you know, this is a good thing all around. I get a haircut and Angel gets to practice. We need each other and the price is right. How many other places does this apply.
I'll go back. I can't resist the bargain and who knows who I'll get next time?
Another later was talking about the diet her doctor put her on. "I didn't realize how much I was eating."
"Well how much were you eating?" the stylist to whom she was speaking said. She possessed a voice quite pleasant and I was happy I sat only a chair away.
"Well, I'd go to McDonald's for breakfast and get pancakes eggs and sausage. For lunch KFC, two pieces of with mashed potatoes and green beans. For a snack I'd get a personal pan pizza and then dinner would be something from Long John Silver's."
"You must live on Versailles Road."
"Yeah, girl."
"Cause that's where all that stuff is."
"I know that's right. My doctor said I was eating 8,000 calories a day."
Well, I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned, ignorance is bliss. I'd like to be able to eat that much and not know it was a ton of calories. As far as I'm concerned, I'd love to eat fast food all day in oblivion. But I know too much these days, about where food comes from, what it contains, how it was processed, if the workers were paid fairly.
Sometimes I'd love to just say, "Hey, would you pass me another thigh?"
Ah, living responsiby sometimes isn't any fun. Unless you're at Sherri's house, because that woman can throw down in the kitchen! And actually, Jodie can make a good meal too. Okay, practically everybody in Communality is a great cook. Scratch that "unfun" statement. But is it okay to make a recon mission to KFC every once in awhile to get a drumstick?
By the way, both Jodie and I came out with some pretty foxy hairdos!
pax,
lisa

So glad you've resurfaced here!
Yeah, after I read Fast Food Nation several years ago, I avoided fast food for a long time. But now, when we do stop at the big M, I often say a little prayer for the folks who bring us that 'food'. Knowing what I now know about the food industry, I think 'There but for the grace of God go I' and remember what a broken place this world is.

For 15 years I only got my hair cut at the community college cosmetology school. Interesting experiences.

Wow, that's a pretty interesting tidbit about your stylist. It must have been difficult for her to suffer something like that. But it's certainly amazing that she was able to overcome the injury. Kudos to her! And good luck to your niece who's in beauty school!
